About

Established in 2015, The Thika Alumni Trust (TTAT) was set‐up by ex‐students of M P Shah Central High School to fulfil the following objectives:

  • To engage with educational communities in Kenya.
  • To raise awareness of the educational needs of schools in Kenya.
  • To raise funds for the educational needs of the young people schooling in Kenya.
  • To promote interest in schools in Kenya and fund‐raising activities of the Society.
  • To foster friendship and understanding between all its members.

The Thika Alumni Trust is resolutely committed to promoting the needs of students in Kenya and to work with their schools to deliver the facilities they require for a good education. Including capital projects, TTAT is passionate about revamping the schools so that future generations of young people can realise their full potential.

Good fund‐raising is crucial in driving these desirable changes so the trust’s important focus is on accomplishing donations from individuals, businesses, charitable foundations and governmental agencies. The means include gathering and consolidating fund‐raising ideas and committing them to action.

Apart from raising and providing funds to refurbish and resource the schools, educational activities are also planned in the form of workshops and school visits.

Membership is open to all ex‐Central High School/M P Shah Central High School/Chania Boys’ High School and Chania Girls’ High School students and their families. There is a nominal annual membership fee due on 1st January to contribute towards the running costs associated with the group. Members are requested to take a share of the responsibilities for running the group and to abide by The Thika Alumni Trust’s constitution. Membership benefits include a periodic newsletter and invitations to fund‐raising events and social functions.

The governing body, a committee made up of trustees, is responsible for directing the affairs of the trust and to deliver the charitable outcomes for the benefit of the schools in Kenya for which it is set up. It also fulfils the group’s social aims by organising social functions for its ‘ex‐student’ members – the alumni.
