After his O levels, Abdul worked for a company in Nyeri, Kenya before he came to England in June 1969. Soon after his arrival, he was offered a job at a post office in London. Having actively taken part in training courses, in 1972 he was promoted to a sub-postmaster’s position in the large Paddington PO Branch and from 1992 he ran the Westminster PO as a head postmaster. In 2005, he started a roving job for the post office, trouble shooting at various sub post offices in Essex and Suffolk. Although retired, he now occasionally works for a sub post office. He enjoys badminton.
